Devotional: Saved by Grace

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” — Ephesians 2:8

One of the most common names I have encountered throughout my educational journey is Grace. It seems that in almost every classroom, there is someone named Grace. While it may not be considered a modern name, it remains popular and has never lost its beauty or significance.

Grace is commonly defined as the unearned and unmerited favor of God. It is a central theme in the writings of the Apostle Paul and lies at the heart of the gospel message. 

In Ephesians 2, Paul reminds the believers at Ephesus of the life they once lived which was a life marked by sin and separation from God. Yet, despite their condition, God extended His grace toward them and saved them. This reveals the true source of salvation: God's loving kindness and mercy. 

God offers the gift of salvation to all people because of His great love for humanity, and He invites us to come near to Him through Jesus Christ. This gift becomes ours when we place our faith in Him, believing that Jesus died for our sins and rose again for our justification. In other words, Grace is the source of salvation, and faith is the means by which we receive it. 

As you reflect on this devotional, remember that salvation does not come through human effort or good works. We cannot earn our way to God. Salvation is a gift that He freely offers to everyone, regardless of background, past mistakes, or present circumstances. All that is required is faith. Receiving this gift marks the beginning of a new life with God through Jesus Christ—a life filled with purpose, growth, and transformation. 

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of Your grace. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins and rising again to give me a new life. I place my faith in You and receive the gift of salvation. Help me to walk with You each day and live a life that honors You, Amen.
