Guiding Questions

Cornelius was a prominent man, a man of leadership and authority but he demonstrated great humility towards Peter.

  • What does Cornelius’ act of humility before Peter reveal about his character?
  • How does Cornelius’ character compare to what is typically expected of someone in his position?

Cornelius knelt before Peter, which can sometimes be translated as human worship, although Peter asked Cornelius to stand up and not kneel before him.

  • How can we show honor to God’s servants without crossing into misplaced reverence?

In verses 34 and 35, Peter made a very powerful statement. He said, ... “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him".

  • How do Peter’s words about God showing no partiality reshape our understanding of God’s nature?
  • How does this story challenge any biases or assumptions we may have about who God can reach and bless?

In verse 44, the Holy Spirit poured out on Cornelius and his household while Peter was still preaching.

  • What does this reveal about their hearts and readiness to receive from God?
  • How does openness to God affect how we receive His Word?
  • What can we learn about spiritual hunger from Cornelius and his household?

Final Reflection

  • How are you using your current position or influence to honor God?
